Ashington Cougars Football Club was established in 1999 and provides children from the ages of 5 to 16 with the opportunity to play football in a safe and enjoyable environment. Players are attracted from Ashington and neighbouring towns and villages including; Storrington, Steyning, Findon, Partridge Green, West Chiltington, Washington, Pulborough and Thakeham. Teams play in the Horsham and District Youth Football League.
Ashington Cougars is an FA Charter Development Standard club, one of only 14 in Sussex and was awarded Sussex FA's Charter Development Club of the Year for 2012. The Charter Standard Scheme sets standards for coaching, administration and child protection for all clubs outside the Premier and Football League.
The club has recently developed 18 Junior Football Officers (JFOs) and also is the first football club in Sussex to become a centre of development for the FA's new "Football Futures" programme which encourages your players (14+) to volunter their services to support grassroots football. Ashington Cougars were finalists in the Sussex Sports Awards 2011 "Sports Club of the Year" category.
